When you have a granddaughter that loves her Minnie Mouse & you visit Joann’s Fabric store, be prepared to come home with more than you intended. Precious has become very adapted at putting bolts of fabric in our shopping cart. She also knows that we have it cut & checkout.
We started out with Simplicity pattern #B6435. The instructions are very clear & were easy to follow. However next time instead of a lining for the bodice I think I will try bias binding for the neck & arm holes.
I love using my serger to finish raw edges. It makes hemming these small sleeves a lot easier. I also used the rolled hem feature on the serger on the ruffle. The new ruffled attachment for my Ruby Royal sewing machine is a dream and makes yards of ruffles in minutes.
As for the appliqué I cut out a large rectangle with the design in the middle. Pressed the design onto Heat-n-Bond; cut out the design leaving about 1/4” of the black; attached the design to the bodice ironing it in place then perfectly attached it with a narrow satin stitch. Probably the first time I accomplished this task without catching some other part of the bodice under the satin stitch. Maybe I am finally getting the hang of appliqué.
